SRK, Kajol unveil DDLJ bronze statue in London
"Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" (DDLJ) has completed 30 years since its release, and to celebrate the milestone, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol travelled to London to unveil a bronze sculpture inspired by their iconic pose from the film. Installed at Leicester Square, the statue is the first ever dedicated to an Indian movie on the Scenes in the Square trail.
The sculpture captures the duo in one of the film's most memorable moments. Shah Rukh and Kajol posed for photographs as they revealed the statue, with Shah Rukh looking dapper in a black suit and Kajol radiating elegance in a mint coloured saree.
Shah Rukh later shared his excitement on Instagram, beginning with the famous dialogue, "Bade bade deshon mein aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hain, Senorita!" He wrote, "Honoured to reveal the bronze statue of Raj and Simran at London's Leicester Square today, celebrating 30 years of 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' (DDLJ)!"
Expressing joy over the honour, he added that DDLJ has become the first Indian film to receive a statue on the trail. He also thanked fans in the UK for making it possible, inviting visitors to "meet Raj and Simran" whenever they are in London and continue creating memories with the film.
Directed by Aditya Chopra, "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" remains one of Indian cinema's most beloved films, with its characters Raj and Simran deeply embedded in the hearts of audiences worldwide. It also holds the record for being the longest-running film in Indian history, with fans still lining up to watch it at Mumbai's iconic Maratha Mandir
