New and upcoming movie releases to wrap up the year
As the year draws to a close, movie lovers are in for a treat with a variety of films set to release this December. Despite the challenges faced by the Bangladeshi film industry this year, including fewer releases and limited box-office hits, there's still plenty to look forward to in the final month of 2024.
One of the first major releases is "Duniya", set to hit theatres on December 6. Directed by Saif Chandan, the film stars Anisur Rahman Milon, Misha Sawdagor, and Airin, among others. Actress Airin shared her excitement, saying, "New movies bring new emotions. I've felt that excitement myself. I urge the audience to go to the theatres and support our films."
Another eagerly awaited release is "Hurmoti", which marks the directorial debut of actress Shabnam Parvin. Set to release on December 13, the comedy film also stars Dilara Zaman and Selim, alongside six new faces. Shabnam Parvin shared her thoughts on this milestone, stating, "I've been an actor for many years, and I've received a lot of love. Now, my own story is coming to life in 'Hurmoti'. It's a comedy film, and I'm sure the audience will enjoy it."
A poignant film that has already made waves is "Room Number 2011", based on the tragic death of BUET student Abrar Fahad. Directed by Sheikh Jisan Ahmed, the film was released on December 3 and had its premiere at Jahangirnagar University. The film features more than a hundred student actors and is expected to spark conversation about the tragic event.
For thriller enthusiasts, "Voyal" is a must-watch. Directed by Biplob Hayder, the film features performances by Irfan Sajjad, Aisha Khan, and Golam Farida Chanda. The film, which was shot in the remote areas of Srimangal, delves into the dark turn of events within families. Irfan Sajjad shared, "I'm glad to be a part of 'Voyal'. After a long gap, my film has been released, and it feels great." Golam Farida Chanda added, "'Voyal' has a beautiful story, and I really enjoyed working on it."
Another notable release, "Noya Manush", is already captivating audiences in theatres this December. Directed by Sohel Rana Boyati, this drama features Rawnak Hasan and Mousumi Hamid in leading roles, with a large ensemble cast. The story revolves around survivors of a flood who start new lives on an island.
Rawnak Hasan described the film as, "A story of marginalised people whose lives will touch the hearts of any viewer." Mousumi Hamid reflected, "Shooting in the remote area and experiencing the story was truly special. These memories will stay with me for a long time."
Another film, "Danger Zone", directed by Belal Sani, is slated for release on December 15.
With a variety of genres and themes, December's movie lineup promises something for every type of moviegoer, from emotional dramas to thrilling narratives.
