‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ trailer: ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel follows Ser Duncan and his squire Egg
It's time to return to Westeros.
HBO has unveiled the first trailer for "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", the much-anticipated prequel to "Game of Thrones." The six-episode half-hour drama will premiere on January 18.
According to HBO's official logline, "A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros — a young, naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
Based on author George R R Martin's novellas "Tales of Dunk and Egg", the series stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, a wandering hedge knight in Westeros, and Dexter Sol Ansell as his young squire, Egg — secretly Prince Aegon Targaryen (unrelated to either of the characters of the same name in HBO's other prequel, "House of the Dragon.")
The ensemble cast includes Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Daniel Ings, Tanzyn Crawford, Sam Spruell, Ross Anderson, Edward Ashley, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Daniel Monks, Shaun Thomas, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Steve Wall, and Danny Webb.
"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is written and executive produced by George R R Martin and Ira Parker, with Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris, and Sarah Bradshaw also serving as executive producers. Adina Smith ("Lessons in Chemistry," "Hanna") will direct the first three episodes, while Owen Harris will helm the final three.
Following the success of "House of the Dragon," HBO appears to be doubling down on its return to Westeros — this time with a lighter tone, smaller scope, and more character-driven storytelling set a hundred years before the Iron Throne's bloodiest battles.
