John C McGinley returns as Dr Cox in ABC’s ‘Scrubs’ reboot
John C McGinley will reprise his iconic role as the sharp-tongued Dr Perry Cox in ABC's upcoming reboot of "Scrubs". The actor is set to appear as a recurring character, joining fellow original cast members Zach Braff (JD), Donald Faison (Turk), Sarah Chalke (Elliot), and Judy Reyes (Carla), all of whom have confirmed their return. There is also speculation that Ken Jenkins and Neil Flynn may come back as Bob Kelso and Janitor.
Produced by 20th Television, the series is executive produced by "Scrubs" creator Bill Lawrence alongside Braff, Faison, Chalke, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer, with Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra serving as showrunners.
The storyline follows JD and Turk, reuniting in the operating room after years apart. While medicine and interns may have changed, their enduring friendship remains at the heart of the series.
McGinley's Dr Cox, once the reluctant mentor to JD who later became chief of medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital before taking on a teaching role when it was converted into a medical school, will once again bring his trademark sarcasm to the screen. After his nine-season run in "Scrubs", McGinley went on to star in the TBS comedy "Ground Floor", also produced by Lawrence. He is currently part of the main cast of HBO's forthcoming untitled Steve Carell comedy series, where he plays a college professor.
