Four new films hit theatres across Bangladesh today
Bangladeshi theatres are welcoming four new releases this week, with three local productions and one Hollywood title set to entertain audiences. The lineup includes "Saba", "Shopne Dekha Rajkonna", "Udyoman Surjo", and Leonardo DiCaprio's epic "One Battle After Another".
'Saba'
After a successful run on the international festival circuit, "Saba" finally reaches Bangladeshi cinemas. Directed by Maksud Hossain, the film follows the struggles of Saba, a young woman from a lower-middle-class family, who cares for her paralyzed mother while facing the harsh realities of survival. Mehazabien Chowdhury leads the cast alongside Rokeya Prachy and Mostafa Monwar. The film previously premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before being showcased in Busan, Red Sea, Gothenburg, Sydney, and Raindance.
'Shopne Dekha Rajkonna'
Romantic drama "Shopne Dekha Rajkonna", directed by Mostafizur Rahman Manik, finally sees release four years after completion. Starring Ador Azad and Nishat Nawar Salwa in lead roles, the film was shot during the pandemic in 2020 and cleared by the censor board in 2021. It will now screen across 27 theatres nationwide, featuring supporting performances by Aliraj, Maruf Akib, and Rebeka.
'Udyoman Surjo'
Helmed by S M Shofiul Azam, "Udyoman Surjo" portrays the liberation war of 1971. The story revolves around Noman, a Dhaka University student, who witnesses the March 25 crackdown and rallies his local youth in Kushtia to join the war. The cast includes Sadman Samir, Kanta Noor, Shishir Ahmed, Tamanna Jolly, and Ovid Rehan. The film opens in seven theatres today.
'One Battle After Another'
Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio headlines "One Battle After Another", directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and inspired by Thomas Pynchon's 1990 novel "Vineland". The film follows a group of former revolutionaries reuniting 16 years later to rescue a young woman. Alongside DiCaprio, the ensemble cast includes Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor. Released internationally today, the film will simultaneously screen at Bangladesh's Star Cineplex.
