Film Artistes’ Association protest alarming rise in violence against women

Protests and demonstrations are sweeping across the country as citizens demand justice for the recent surge in rape cases. Amid these growing protests, the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association (BFAA) held a human chain demonstration at the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises yesterday afternoon.
Artistes called for the swift resolution of all rape and gender-based violence cases during the demonstration. They demanded the formation of a special tribunal to ensure speedy justice. Notable personalities at the gathering included Misha Sawdagor, Rawshan Ara Rozina, Shipon Mitra, Joy Chowdhury, Mukti, and several other actors.
During the protest, Misha Sawdagor, the president of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association, expressed, "We are all aware of what's happening around us, and we are all being vocal about what needs to be done and what we wish to see. Today's gathering is an outpouring of our collective emotion. We demand the immediate formation of a special tribunal for the speedy resolution of cases involving child rape, all rape cases, and violence against women. The maximum punishment must be ensured for the culprits."
Veteran actress Rozina also spoke out, emphasising the situation's urgency, "If we want to build a civilised society, we need to take effective measures right now. Today's children are tomorrow's future, so let's pledge to ensure the safety of every child. We don't want to see any more children become victims of heinous crimes."
