The recent incident of the rape of an eight-year-old child has shocked the entire country. The increasing rate of violence against women and children has made citizens worried and enraged, leading to protests from social media to the streets. Among people from all walks of life, the showbiz industry has also raised its voice against such heinous acts.

National Film Award-winning actress Bidya Sinha Mim spoke to The Daily Star, expressing her thoughts on the grim situation the country is facing right now.

"When we see the rape accused are coming out of prison on bail, such acts are further provoked. The highest penalty for rape must be ensured; otherwise, perpetrators will dare to repeat such crimes. In many countries around the world, we see that rapists receive the highest punishment. We want to see rapists receiving the death penalty, as they deserve it," shared Mim.

Mim believes that when that death penalty is enforced, potential criminals will be afraid to commit such crimes. "Light punishments like imprisonment or monetary fines are not enough. Hearing about the death penalty will surely instil fear, and no one will dare to commit such horrific crimes. When the talk of execution spreads among people, crimes will decrease rapidly. There will be no mercy for rapists, no sympathy for them. We demand justice, and the punishment must be executed immediately."

The actress further said, "Women are facing harassment in various parts of society. This is absolutely unacceptable. Both men and women contribute to society, so such harassment must stop. Little Asiya is now fighting for her life, and those who put her in this condition must be sentenced to death!"
