Babita to receive lifetime award at Dallas Bangla Film Festival
Iconic actress Babita is set to receive a lifetime honour today, from the mayor of Dallas, in recognition of her illustrious cinematic career. The award ceremony will take place during the Dallas Bangla Film Festival, which will kick off with a screening of Babita's acclaimed film, "Noyonmoni".
The sixth season of the Dallas Bengali Film Festival begins today, at the Angelica Film Centre in Dallas, Texas, USA. Over the course of three days, six films, including the timeless classics "Golapi Ekhon Train e" and "Ashani Sanket", both starring Babita, will be screened at the festival.
The festival will run until August 6.
Expressing her thoughts on the film festival, Babita reflected on the journey of Bangladeshi cinema in the global arena. She shared, "Before our country's independence, our talented filmmakers struggled to get their masterpieces showcased in international festivals. However, after independence, we were able to showcase our films worldwide."
"My association with Satyajit Ray's 'Ashani Sanket' paved the way for my representation as a Bangladeshi girl in the global film arena, proudly carrying the flag of Bangladesh. Today, the Dallas Bengali Film Festival is a testament to my journey, and I am deeply honoured to receive this award from the honourable Mayor. This recognition is not just mine; it belongs to my country and my family," she added.
Throughout her illustrious career, Babita has graced numerous international film festivals and earned countless accolades, including the National Film Award eight times.
