Audience’s support made this win possible: Kajal Arefin Ome

One of the most popular directors in the country, Kajal Arefin Ome won over audiences with his much-acclaimed television project "Bachelor Point". His talent was not limited to comedy; he ventured into romance, family drama, and tragedy as well. Such is his project "Osomoy", a production that blends family drama, romance, and tragedy with a touch of comic relief.

This year, the project won three major awards at the Blender's Choice—The Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards, including Best Director (Film) in the Popular Category and both Supporting Actor honours. 

As Ome could not attend the show in person due to illness, he expressed his thoughts in an interview with us.

"I sincerely thank Blender's Choice–The Daily Star OTT & Digital Content Awards for nominating 'Osomoy' in multiple categories and honouring me with the Best Director Film (Popular) recognition," he shared, adding, "I am grateful to the jury and, above all, to the audience whose support made this win possible." 

Ome believes it is the audience who brought him to this position and that, without their support, the award and recognition would not have been possible. "This award is especially meaningful as it comes from the popular category, reflecting the love of the very people I create my work for," he said.

" 'Osomoy' was acclaimed widely, and even today, audiences continue to appreciate it. I also thank The Daily Star for giving viewers the platform to cast their votes."

Ome shared that when he pitched this project to Bongo producer Mushfiqur Rahman, they were initially surprised to learn it was a serious plot. "Earlier, I directed Hotel Relax for the same platform, and they were confident because comedy is my forte. However, Osomoy's story was contemporary and something I personally wanted to tell from the heart, so the producer believed in me and we took that risk. The outcome was so overwhelming that even today, when I meet people, they still talk about 'Osomoy'."
