Theatre Factory celebrates Jibanananda Das with ‘Komola Rong er Bodh’
Theatre Factory is set to host a five-day festival titled "Jibanananda Das Smaronutshob o Theatre Factory-er Astham Prothisthaborshiki" from October 18 to 22, honouring both the poet's legacy and the theatre troupe's eight-year journey.
The festival opens on October 18 at Mohila Samity with a performance of "Komola Rong er Bodh", a play written and directed by Alok Basu. Based on the life and works of Jibanananda Das, the production paints a poetic portrait of the modernist poet through fragments of memory, philosophical reflection, and emotional resonance.
Speaking about the production, Alok Basu said, "We will stage three shows of 'Komola Rong er Bodh' in memory of Jibanananda Das. On the 19th, we'll host an event titled 'Our Jibanananda' where guests will share their personal reflections on the poet. Each night, after the performance, distinguished guests will discuss his life and poetry. Our goal is to honour his quiet brilliance through theatre."
The anniversary celebration on October 20 will feature a special gathering of Theatre Factory members and artists from other troupes. The festival will conclude with two additional performances of "Komola Rong er Bodh" on October 21 and 22 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy's Experimental Theatre Hall.
Founded in 2017, Theatre Factory has staged five productions over the past eight years. Reflecting on the journey, Alok Basu said, "When we started, our aim was to create meaningful theatre productions that would last in people's memories. We never wanted to be confined to mere stage shows. Each project has been a labour of love, patience, and purpose."
