‘Hasan Azizul Haque Theatre Festival’: RU celebrates with plays and colourful processions

Rajshahi University is set to host the fourth edition of the "Kothashahityik Hasan Azizul Haque Theatre Festival", beginning on Friday and continuing until Tuesday. The five-day event is being organised to mark the 44th founding anniversary of the university-based theatre troupe Somokal Natyochokro.

Mahmudul Islam, publicity and publication secretary of Samakal Natyochokro, told this newspaper that stage productions will take place on Friday, Sunday and Monday. On Tuesday, the troupe will mark its anniversary with a vibrant procession and special programmes.

The festival will open today in the evening at the Shaheed Sukhranjan Samaddar TSC auditorium with floral tributes at the memorial plaque of eminent writer Hasan Azizul Haque, followed by the official inauguration. After the ceremony, Somokal Natyochokro will stage the play "Shylock and Sycophants."

At 4:30pm on Sunday, Bogura College Theatre will stage the street play "Ekti Obastob Golpo" at the TSC Botto Mul. At 6pm, Somokal Natyochokro will perform "Byang". Later, at 7pm, Tirthank Theatre will present their production "Agunpakhi" at the TSC auditorium.

Monday's events will begin at 4:30pm with the street play "Manikjor", performed by Natore's Bokul Smriti Theatre at the TSC Botto Mul. At 6pm, Somokal Natyochokro will stage "Jonoker Mohoproyaan".

At 7pm, Theatre Zero Repertory will present "Deja Vu," followed at 7:45pm by their second performance, "Shobbhotar Manpotro," both at the TSC auditorium.
