In 1971, martyr Salimullah was brutally murdered by the Pakistani army. At that time, Zebunnessa jumped from the roof of her house on Taj Mahal Road in Mohammadpur, to escape from the invading forces on that fateful night of March 26. From that day, both of her legs had been rendered unusable. For a long time, she was dependent on crutches, and spent the last 15 years on a wheelchair, in the same house.
However, for the past few days, she was suffering from multiple health issues due to her old age. After that, she was admitted for the hospital and left for good.
Zebunnessa Salimullah raised 10 children single-handedly. All of the siblings were dependent on her, as she was the breadwinner and caregiver at the same time for the family.
She is survived by 7 children, among whom Sadi Mohammad and Shibli Mohammad are renowned cultural personalities.
