Two-Day Annual Classical Music Festival ‘Sunad’ Begins at Bengal Shilpalay

Bengal Parampara Sangeetalaya is celebrating its 10th anniversary with "Sunad," a two-day annual classical music festival. The festival, which began on September 26th and continues on September 27th, 2024 (Thursday and Friday), offers a rich showcase of classical music performances, starting at 6:30 PM each evening at Bengal Shilpalay.

The first day of "Sunad" featured a diverse range of performances. The evening commenced with a rendition of Raga Yaman by Shashwata Kumar Mandal, Mithila Phalguni Mandal, Kumar Bikramaditya Sarkar, Dibyashree Saha, Mahir Azmain Evan, Tawki Yasar Aiman, and Sadya Majumdar. Sohini Majumdar then captivated the audience with Raga Kaafi on the sitar, accompanied by Nusrat I Jahan Khushbu on tabla. Aniya Pal followed with a Khayal performance. The evocative Raga Desh was presented in a duet by Soumit Roy on Esraj and Nilay Haldar on Sarangi. Tinku Sheel delivered a Dhrupad performance, and the first day concluded with a dynamic solo tabla recital by Sajib Biswas.

The second day promises another compelling program. Young students of the academy—Ambar John Purification, Abriti Mary Purification, Lillian Audrey Biswas, Prafulla Anshuman, Prathama Rani Sarkar, Ayushi Saha, and Tulip Nandi—will present a Dhrupad performance, accompanied on Pakhawaj by Debaditya Banik. Shaunak Debnath Rik will offer a solo Sarangi recital, with tabla accompaniment by Kumar Pratibimb. Divyamay Desh will perform Dhrupad, supported by Kumar Pratibimb on Pakhawaj and Apurba Karmakar on Tanpura.

A group of young tabla players—Om Abhra Choudhury, Apurba Jyoti Dutta, Arjit Anunad, and Orchid Costa—will present a Teen Taal composition, with Fahmida Naznin on harmonium. Sushmita Debnath Suchi will deliver a solo Khayal recital, accompanied by Apan Biswas on tabla, Mirajul Jannat Sonia on harmonium, and Apurba Karmakar on tanpura. The festival will culminate in a Sarod recital by Ilham Fuljhuri and Isra Fuljhuri Khan, with Fahmida Naznin on tabla.
