Subir Nandi’s new song to be released posthumously
Five years after the death of legendary singer Subir Nandi, a previously unreleased song recorded in his voice is set to be released, continuing a series of posthumous works by the artiste.
Subir Nandi passed away in Singapore in 2020 while undergoing medical treatment. Before his death, he had recorded 11 songs under the composition and musical direction of National Film Award–winning composer Tanvir Tareq. Those recordings are now being released gradually, keeping the singer’s voice alive for listeners.
The latest addition to the series is titled “Amar Ayu Niye Bacho”, written by lyricist Zahid Akbar. The sad-romantic track will be released on Tanvir Tareq’s official YouTube channel, Sounds of Tanvir, and will also be made available on Apple Music, Spotify and more than 50 international streaming platforms.
Speaking about the song, composer and music director Tanvir Tareq said working with Subir Nandi on these projects remains one of the most cherished experiences of his life. He described the songs as among the most significant works of his career and noted that acoustic instruments were used throughout the recordings.
For “Amar Ayu Niye Bacho”, renowned sitarist Rahul Mukhopadhyay contributed to the arrangement. Tanvir added that while there is little left to say about Subir Nandi’s voice, he believes there is still a section of listeners—even in the era of reels and TikTok—who seek solace in melody, and the song is meant for them.
Lyricist Zahid Akbar said he was unaware that the song had been recorded in Subir Nandi’s voice. He had assumed the track was never recorded. Hearing it years later, he said, left him deeply moved, adding that listeners would likely feel the same emotional pull and return to the song repeatedly.
A lyric video for “Amar Ayu Niye Bacho” will be released first. There are also plans to produce a separate theme-based music video with newly shot visuals.
The song was recorded at Kolahol Studio in Dhaka and Vibration Studio in Kolkata, while mixing and mastering were completed at TFP Studio in Las Vegas.
