A collection of 10 short films produced by Friendly Neighbourhood Filmmakers (FNF) has been released on YouTube, making the films available to a wider audience.

The films were first screened at a special showcase on May 30 last year. Despite being made on limited budgets, the films received a positive response from viewers. To mark one year since the screening, FNF has now released all 10 films online.

The short films cover a range of genres and styles. The line-up includes “Hudai Miss” by Zahidul Haque Apu, “Hamanculus” by Ibna Noor Rakib, “Sole Mate” by Adel Imam Anup, “Cha Chai” by Sheikh Korashanee, “Telapoka” by Al-Amin Hasan Nirjhar, “Lok” by Mahmuda Sultana Rima, “In Another World” by Kanak Khondoker, “For Sale” by Phajla Rabbe, “On the Contrary” by Imtiaz Hossain and “Ishpite” by Abir Ferdous Mukhar.

According to the filmmakers, the project was created by a group of young people who share a passion for filmmaking while working full-time corporate jobs.

“There are around 20 members on the platform. Ten of them directed films this season, while others worked both in front of and behind the camera,” said filmmaker Zahidul Haque. He added that FNF plans to involve more filmmakers in its second season.

FNF member Sheikh Korashanee said the group’s aim was to make films on a small budget and continue developing their work in a more professional way.

Among the films, “Lok” explores Bangladeshi folk horror and has already been screened at several international film festivals. “Sole Mate” tells its story from the perspective of a shoe. Other films also offer unusual concepts. “Hudai Miss” follows the story of a corporate employee and a genie, while “Ishpite” is set in a romantic atmosphere.

Actor Rizvi Rizu appears in “For Sale”, and singer-songwriter Ahmed Hasan Sunny features in “On the Contrary”.

The filmmakers hope the initiative will encourage aspiring directors to tell stories even with limited resources. They also hinted that an announcement regarding the second season may come soon.
