Singer Tausif alleges cyberbullying after stroke
Singer Tausif Ahmed, who recently suffered a stroke and remains in serious condition, returned home from hospital on Friday (January 2). During the incident, he sustained severe head injuries and required 27 stitches. While still dealing with physical pain, the artiste says he has been mentally shaken by negative comments and the spread of false information on social media following news of his illness.
Tausif has alleged that he has been subjected to cyberbullying and has warned that he may take legal action against those responsible.
Speaking to Prothom Alo on Saturday (January 3) morning, Tausif said that shortly after he shared news of his condition on Facebook, a section of users began posting derogatory remarks and baseless comments. "These comments have deeply hurt me," he said.
The singer recounted that on the morning of December 28 last year, he suddenly lost consciousness at his home in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. He remained unconscious for a prolonged period before his wife and child found him and rushed him to a private hospital in the city. After several days of treatment, he was finally discharged and returned home.
In a Facebook post, Tausif wrote: "Some individuals made negative comments after hearing about my stroke. While I can personally ignore such remarks, I am considering filing a case under the Cyber Security Act for cyberbullying, defamation and spreading false information."
Elaborating further, he told Prothom Alo, "It's alarming how intolerant many Facebook users are becoming. People seem to have forgotten what should and should not be said. Instead of empathy for someone who is ill, there is mockery and even celebration. False information has been spread about me and my family, which I consider a criminal offence. My dignity has been harmed, and I will take legal action. Those who have known me for years know the kind of person I am. Please do not drag my family into this."
Addressing his fans in an emotional message, Tausif said, "I may not have become a big star, but my greatest achievement is that songs I sang a decade and a half ago are still listened to with interest and will continue to be. What greater achievement can there be for an artiste? Please do not spread rumours about me without knowing the truth."
This is not the first major health scare for Tausif Ahmed. He previously suffered heart attacks twice, first in April 2022 and again in October 2024. Following medical advice, he has been on prolonged rest since then.
