135th death anniversary of Lalon Shah observed in Cumilla
Through a variety of programmes, the Cumilla district administration commemorated the 135th death anniversary of Fakir Lalon Shah, celebrating his timeless spiritual philosophy and humanist ideals through cultural performances and discussions.
On Friday evening, the district administration organised a discussion and cultural event at the Bir Muktijoddha Rafiqul Islam Open Stage at the Town Hall Field.
Deputy Commissioner Md Amirul Kayes, addressing the gathering as the chief guest, said, "By spreading the light of humanism, secularism, and mystic spirituality, Fakir Lalon Sai has become an inseparable part of Bengali culture. Lalon was a philosopher-saint who preached the message of humanity beyond caste, religion, and lineage. His philosophy continues to inspire our secular consciousness even today."
The evening featured captivating performances by Baul artiste Sumi Haider and several local Baul and Lalon song performers, enchanting the audience with their soulful renditions.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Saiful Islam and Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Md Saiful Malik attended the event as special guests.
Officials from the district and police administrations, along with cultural activists, teachers, students, and journalists, were also present at the programme.
