A novel of war and love
Rahitul Islam's novel, Bookpocket, published by Prothoma, was released at this year's Ekushey Boi Mela. A true story, the book is based on a freedom fighter who fought in the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
The story of the novel revolves around the life of two characters, Tanes and Zohra. Tanes cannot help but join in the war of independence in 1971. When Zohra hears about him going to the war, she weeps, but does not stop him from joining the war. Tanes assures her that he will return only after ensuring the victory of the country. Meanwhile, Zohra promises to wait for his return.
When Tanes comes back after the war, he hears that Zohra has been killed by the Pakistani army. 50 years pass but Tanes still carries Zohra's photograph and letter in his chest pocket.
The cover of Bookpocket has been designed by Niaz Chowdhury Tuli. Author of 14 books, Rahitul Islam's notable publications include Outsourcing O Bhalobasar Golpo (Shiri Prokashon, 2018), Call Centerer Aparajita (Prothoma, 2022), and so on. Based on these novels a few telefilms have been made gaining him much popularity.
The writer told Daily Star Books that he wants to write success stories of the ICT sector to inspire young people to contribute towards the sector and bring up facts to the mass people. This year, he has ventured out of his sphere of the ICT sector to write this novel.
