Wild elephants trample two to death in Chattogram
Wild elephants trampled two people to death in the span of eight hours in Chattogram.
In Banshkhali upazila of the district, farmer Jahar Lal Dev (35) was guarding his crop field when the incident occurred around 10:00pm last night, our Chattogram correspondent reports quoting Raju Ahmed, wildlife officer at Chattogram Forest Division.
Meanwhile, a 50-year old woman, whose identity could not be known immediately, was also trampled to death in Anwara upazila of the district.
A herd of wild elephants came in search of food when the woman was working on her crop field around 6:30am today, resulting in the incident, said Anwara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Zubair Ahmed.
The crop field was in Gopanchak village in the upazila, the UNO added.
As food sources dwindle, and habitats continue to be degraded, elephants are moving from the forest areas and entering localities giving rise to human-wildlife conflict.
