Plane crash: Survivor Kabir likely to be taken to Singapore

US-Bangla plane crash survivor Kabir Hossain, who is undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, might be taken to Singapore for better treatment, doctors said.

"The medical board, which was formed for treatment of the plane crash survivors, opined that the right leg of Kabir Hossain needs to be amputated due to infection," Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief of the 14-member medical board, told reporters at a briefing at the DMCH.

Dr Sen, also chief national coordinator for plastic surgery and all burn projects, Bangladesh, also said the family members of Kabir want to take him to Singapore for treatment and US-Bangla Airlines will bear the cost of his treatment.

“Doctors will examine his physical condition. If his physical condition permits, he will be flown to Singapore by an air-ambulance tonight or tomorrow,” Al Helal Shaon, son of Kabir Hossain told this newspaper.   

Hours after Kabir Hossain was brought back to Dhaka from a Kathmandu hospital on Monday, his condition started deteriorating. 

He has been kept on life support at the DMCH burn since Friday night.

On March 12, at least 49 people, including 26 Bangladeshis, died as an aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines from Dhaka to Kathmandu crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport in the capital of Himalayan country Nepal.

Among the survivors-Mehedi Hasan, SaiyadaKamrunnaharShwarna, Almun Nahar Annie, Sheikh RashedRubayet, Shahreen Ahmed and Shahin Bepari--were undergoing treatment at DMCH.

Asked,Dr Sen said conditions of all the injured victims except Shahin Bepari are improving gradually.

“Condition of Shahin Bepari remains unchanged,” he added.
