UGC official’s death: Legal notice for judicial inquiry
A Supreme Court lawyer today sent legal notice to the government seeking judicial inquiry into the custodial death of a UGC official by 24 hours.
Eunus Ali Akond issued the notice requesting the government to take necessary steps against the persons who are involved with the incident.
Omar Siraj, an assistant director of University Grants Commission (UGC), died in Rapid Action Battalion’s (Rab) custody after being held over “leaking” medical admission test questions.
He was under remand for two days. But he died on October 1.
Eunus said he will file a writ with the High Court seeking necessary order if the government does not form a judicial body to inquire the death.
The Daily Star had reported that family of the deceased alleged that Omar died under torture.
