Sufferings on Dhaka-Ctg highway continue
Although the gridlock on Dhaka-Chittagong highway has been reduced to four or five kilometres at Comilla point, people are still suffering in tailbacks at several points.
Law enforcers this morning said the traffic congestion has been reduced between Daudkandi toll plaza and Shahidnagar, our Comilla correspondent reports quoting Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (OC) of Daudkandi highway police outpost.
Traffic jam on the highway at Comilla portion started to ease but vehicles are moving very slowing, the OC said.
Meanwhile, there is a heavy pressure of vehicles on both sides of the highway between Meghna and Meghna-Gumti bridges, Humayun Kabir, OC of Gazaria Police Station, told the correspondent.
Since last evening, traffic movement was slow on the highway following the removal of a vehicle which broke down yesterday morning intensifying traffic congestion, the correspondent said.
Tailbacks stretched to 110km near Feni for almost five days due to bottlenecks caused by the construction work of a flyover at Fatehpur.
But yesterday's gridlock ensued from several other spots. Women and children suffered the most as vehicles on both sides of the road crawled to a halt.
Vehicles heading towards Dhaka were subjected to a 35-km tailback between Kutumbopur of Chandina and Meghna Bridge early yesterday while those leaving the capital experienced a 30-km long queue from Jatrabari, our Comilla and Narayanganj correspondents report.
