4 N’ganj men jailed in rape case

A tribunal in Narayanganj has sentenced life term imprisonment to four persons for raping a teenage girl in 2010.

The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal also fined them Tk 1 lakh each, our local correspondent reports quoting Public Prosecutor Rakibuddin Ahmed Rakib.

The convicts are: Shahidul Islam, 30, Shakil Hossain, 28, Chanchal, 31, and Arif, 30.

Of the convicts, Chanchal is in jail while the rest are on the run, PP Rakib said.

On March 15, 2010, the 18-year-old girl was returning home from her workplace in the city’s Shaheednagar area around 10:00pm.

A group of criminals abducted her from the area and later gang raped her, according to the case.

Following the incident, the victim’s mother filed a case.
