Sujan for reforming Election Commission
A faction of the civil society today urged for reforms to the Election Commission in view of the recent city polls to Dhaka and Chittagong.
Alleging that the election was not held in a free and fair manner, Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan) made the call to the government at a programme in Dhaka.
"It is time to reform the Election Commission," Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of the platform, said in the programme held at Dhaka Reporters Unity.
"We were deprived of free, fair and impartial elections due to the EC's biasness and weakness in controlling law and order. That is why, eligible persons must be put in the commission through a search committee."
Of the elected persons 75 percent are rich and businessmen and 50 percent candidates had no educational qualifications to run the elections. And many candidates were accused in many cases filed against them," Badiul Alam said.
"The elections' results will effect in the country's politics in the future," he added.
