Bangladeshi expats in Libya asked to remain cautious

Bangladesh mission in Tripoli has asked its nationals living in Libya to remain alert amid the rise of violence in the war-torn North African country.

The embassy has asked the expatriates to limit their movement outside their residences, urging them not to go out at night and to carry necessary documents, said a Facebook status of the mission today.

The warning over “the necessity of ensuring self-security” came after the deaths of three Bangladeshi migrants in Benghazi on Sunday.

 “The embassy has advised the migrants to show your identity and documents if you are asked to stop at any check-point by security forces. It is also suggested not to try to run away out of fear in any situation,” the mission mentioned.

The embassy requested Bangladeshis to be cautious before going in search of work with any unknown person as foreigners were being targeted.

The migrants also have been advised to contact the embassy's hotline number [+218-916994207] if they face any untoward situation.

Around 40,000 to 50,000 Bangladeshis are working at different sectors in Libya. The government has banned migration of Bangladeshis to the war and conflict-torn African country since August due to clashes among different groups.

Meanwhile, the mission disclosed the identities of the deceased migrants.

The victims are: Abdur Rahim, son of Moslem Bepari Moni from Rajbari, Humayun Kabir, son of Shamsul Haque from Panchgarh and Md Hasan from Jessore.

The mission’s Facebook also claimed that the Bangladeshis were killed by a military group when the migrants tried to flee away despite being asked to stop.
