Second fire this week at Rohingya camp
Over a hundred makeshift households, some NGO run primary schools and a health centre were gutted by fire at Kutupalang Rohingya camp in Ukhia of Cox's Bazar early today. This is the second fire in less than a week that occurred in the cramped Rohingya settlements.
The fire broke out at refugee camp number 5 around 1:00am, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports, quoting fire service officials in Ukhia.
Fire fighters were able to control the fire after an hour and half of frantic effort, said Mohammad Emdadul Islam, station officer of Ukhia fire service.
The fire originated from a gas cylinder, he said.
The fire spread rapidly as the camp is densely populated, the fire service official said.
This incident happened just four days after a devastating fire at Lambasia area of the same camp that burnt down over 100 makeshift houses.
