Savar heist: BB urges IGP to ensure banks’ security
A day after the Savar bank robbery, Bangladesh Bank Governor Atiur Rahman today wrote a letter to the inspector general of police (IGP), urging him to ensure security of all the branches of the banks across the country.
All the bank branches should be given additional protection to prevent the reoccurrence of a similar event, the governor wrote to IGP AKM Shahidul Hoque.
Expressing concern over the heist, Atiur said, “It was an overwhelming incident that reflects a distressing situation of the banking community. I urge the police to take proper action and arrest those responsible for the looting.”
About eight to ten armed looters stormed into the Kathgora branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank and shot down seven people, yesterday.
Locals managed to get hold of two robbers. One of them was beaten to death by the mob while the other was handed over to police.
