Rupa murder: Charges pressed against 5 transport workers

Police today pressed charges against five transport workers in the case filed for killing Rupa Khatun after raping her on a moving bus in Tangail on August 25.

Kaiyum Khan Siddique, in-charge of Araonkhola police outpost in Madhupur and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Judicial Magistrate's Court in Tangail in the evening, said Mahbub Alam, superintendent of police in Tangail.

The accused are helpers of Chhoa Paribahan passenger bus Shamim, 26, Akram, 35, and Jahangir, 20, driver of the bus Habibur, 45, and supervisor Safar Ali alias Gendu Miah, 55.

Charges of gang rape, murder and disappearing body were brought against them, the police official told our Tangail correspondent.

Police on August 25 recovered the body of an unidentified woman from near Tangail-Mymensingh road in Madhupur upazila. The following day, the body was buried at Tangail central graveyard after carrying out an autopsy.

Seeing news in different media, Rupa's family members went to Madhupur Police Station on August 28. They saw clothes and photographs of the victim and identified her.

The next day, law enforcers picked up five staff of a bus from Madhupur. The arrestees during interrogation admitted their involvement in the crime.
