‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with Jamalpur cops
An alleged robber was killed and a policeman was injured in a “gunfight” in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur last night.
Deceased Shamim Ahmed, 35, was son of Lal Mahmud Fakir hailing from Fakirpara village in the upazila, reports our local correspondent.
Shamim was accused in 14 cases including murder and robbery, said Rampada Mondal, officer-in-charge of Madarganj Police Station.
Razzak, a sub-inspector of the police station, suffered bullet injuries during the gunfight. He is now undergoing treatment at Jamalpur Sadar Hospital.
On information that robbers were planning to commit robbery at Koalikandi village, a team of police raided there around 8:45pm yesterday, OC Rampada said.
As police reached there, the robbers opened fire that forced the law enforcers to retaliate triggering a “gunfight” with them.
The gunfight left Shamim and SI Razzak bullet wounded, the OC said.
Shamim was whisked off to Madarganj Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to Jamalpur Sadar Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
He succumbed to his injuries at Jamalpur Sadar Hospital around 11:00pm last night.
