The High Court today directed the Election Commission to resolve the registration application of Bobby Hajjaj’s party National Democratic Movement in two weeks.

The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order following a writ filed by Hajjaj challenging the Election Commission’s “inaction”.

The commission will have to settle the registration application in two weeks after receiving the court order, Deputy Attorney General Ekramul Haque Tutul told The Daily Star.

Bobby Hajjaj submitted his application to the Election Commission on December 23 last year, but it did not dispose the application as he had shortage of some relevant papers.

The EC on April 8 this year asked Bobby Hajjaj to submit the papers by April 22. Accordingly, Hajjaj submitted the papers to the commission on April 18, DAG Tutul said.

As the application was not disposed even after receiving the necessary papers, Bobby Hajjaj recently submitted the writ petition to the HC challenging the EC’s inaction.

Barrister Akhtar Imam and Barrister Rashna Imam appeared for the writ petitioner.
