Rajon killing: Fugitive convict surrenders

A fugitive convict in the sensational torture-to-murder case of 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajon surrendered before a Sylhet court today.

Shamim Ahmed, brother of condemned Quamrul Islam, surrendered before Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court around 11:30am with a bail plea, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent quoting prosecution lawyer Moshrur Chowdhury Shawkat.

Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha rejected the bail and sent Shamim to jail, Shawkat said.

Earlier on November 8, the court sentenced four people including prime accused Quamrul Islam to death and another to life term imprisonment for beating 13-year-old Rajon to death in July this year.

The brutal murder of Rajon drew outrage throughout the country. Demands were to bring back Quamrul, who managed to flee to Saudi Arabia, to face trial.
