Qatar to hire more Bangladeshi workers

Prime Minister Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani has agreed to increase hiring workers from Bangladesh.

“The Qatari prime minister has agreed to increase employing Bangladeshis and provide training and skill building facilities for them,” said Jahangir Alam, public relations officer of expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry, issuing a press release today.

The Gulf state premier assured the Bangladesh expatriates’ welfare minister Nurul Islam.

On Wednesday, Qatar Administrative Development and Labour and Social Affairs Minister Issa Saad Al-Jafali Al-Nuaimi said Qatar has shown interest in recruiting about three lakh jobseekers from Bangladesh over the next two years.

On Tuesday, the minster with a nine-member delegation arrived in Qatar on a three-day official visit.

A joint-working group between the two countries will meet in Dhaka in the first week of March, according to the press release to work out the details of the plan.  

The Gulf country has been recruiting construction and cleaning workers from Bangladesh recently, the authorities there are now keen to recruit salesmen, nurses, doctors, engineers and office employees from Bangladesh.

Nearly 400,000 Bangladeshi workers are currently employed in different sectors in the Gulf country.
