5 rescued in Mymensingh hospital lift collapse
Five people including a patient were rescued this evening after they got trapped as a lift collapsed while going up at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
The four attendants and a patient Jashim Uddin were rescued from the shaft in two-hour-drive, said Shahidur Rahman, assistant director of Mymensingh’s fire service and civil defence.
Adequate amount of oxygen was pumped into the shaft, he told our Mymensingh correspondent.
The accident took place around 4:30pm when some attendants with their patient got into the lift at the orthopedic department of the hospital, said Prof Dr Matiur Rahman Bhuiyan, general secretary of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA)’s Mymensingh unit.
On information, firefighters rushed in and started a rescue operation, he added.
