Rajon killing: Prime accused Kamrul taken to Sylhet

Police took Kamrul Islam, the prime accused in the case filed over the killing of 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajon, to Sylhet this evening, hours after he was brought back from Saudi Arabia.

Kamrul will be produced before Sylhet Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court tomorrow morning from Jalalabad Police Station, said Additional Deputy Commissioner Rahmat Ullah of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP).

Earlier, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying Kamrul landed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 2:57pm this afternoon.

Alamgir Hossain, senior assistant superintendent of Armed Police Battalion (APBn), told The Daily Star of the development and said he was at the airport's immigration department around 3:30pm.

Rajon was tortured to death by a group of brutes who were "punishing" him in Kumargaon Bus Stand area of Sylhet on July 8. Rajon's "crime", the accused claimed, was theft.

A case was filed over the incident by the victim's father, where Kamrul was mentioned as the prime suspect. The incident drew criticism both in home and abroad.

Kamrul, who managed to flee to Saudi Arabia, was detained by Bangladeshis living there. The enraged migrants had handed him over to local police.

On September 22, a Sylhet court framed charges against 13 people, including Kamrul. Among those indicted, ten have been arrested so far.
