NSU might scrap studentship if absent for 1 semester

North South University is on the verge of taking a major decision to strip studentship of anybody found absent for a semester without valid reason.

The recommendation was made in an emergency meeting of North South authorities in light of its students being found involved with terrorist activities.

Confirming the development, Belal Ahmed, deputy director of the university's public relations desk, told The Daily Star previously, such actions were considered for students dropping out for two consecutive semesters.

The recommendation will be brought into effect soon by the authorities concerned, he added.

Bangladesh witnessed two back-to-back attacks in the first week of July – one being the gruesome attack on a restaurant in capital's diplomatic zone and the other on Sholakia Eidgah on Eid day.

In both instances, attackers were identified as students of privately-run North South University.

Instances of North South's students, along with students of other private universities, being involved in militant activities were also found in the past.
