There will be no compromise with the ban on auto-rickshaws on highways, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said today.

"In 3,000km stretch of highways, no CNG-run auto-rickshaws, easy-bikes, nasimon and karimon are allowed to ply at this moment," the minister said.

However, the minister assured that separate lanes for auto-rickshaws will be made on the highways in the future, reports our Chittagong correspondent.

The minister made the comment at a programme marking the 66th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, founder of Abahani Limited and also the eldest son of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in the port city.

Apart from the highways, there left about 2.5lakh kilometres of roads in the country. The three-wheeler vehicles can run there," the minister added.

"In future, we will construct by-lane beside four-lane highways for the auto-rickshaws and other small vehicles," he informed.

Tarafdar Md Ruhul Amin, president of Football Committee, chaired the programme.

Chattagram Abahani Limited, Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin and lawmaker Shamsul Huq Chowdhury were also present at the programme among others.

Chittagong Abahani Limited organised the programme that held at a restaurant in Chittagong city.
