The 2026 World Cup got off to a glittering start at Estadio Azteca today, with Shakira featured in the opening ceremony, sending fans roaring amid fireworks and dancers twirling around a giant World Cup trophy. Co-host Mexico then opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over South Africa, with Julian Quinones celebrating the first goal of the competition alongside Israel Reyes. The match also turned chaotic, as two South Africans -- Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane -- and one Mexican -- Cesar Montes -- were shown direct red cards.
