Jashore groups boycott Baishakh festivity in protest
Several cultural organisations of Jashore have boycotted Baishakh festivity in protest against a government decision to curtail Bangla new year celebration programmes.
The decision was taken by 21 cultural organisations at a meeting held at the office of Udichi Shilpi Goshthi last night, our Benapole correspondent reports.
DM Shahiduzzaman, president of local Sammilita Sangskritik Jote and also the president of local Udichi group, confirmed The Daily Star of the development today.
"People of all walks of life take part at the Baishakh celebrations. But the government has curtailed the programmes. We are angry with this decision," Shahid told reporters.
The organisations will hand over memorandum to the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police on Sunday in this regard.
A human chain will also be formed at Garikhana Road in protest on the day.
