Govt to take medical care of shot mother, newborn: Nasim
Health Minister Mohammad Nasim today said that the government would take care of the treatment of the bullet-hit mother and her newborn who was hit by a bullet while in her mother's womb.
"Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed authorities for proper treatment of the injured mother and her newborn daughter," Nasim told reporters after visiting them at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The health minister said "criminals are criminals" and they will be punished.
He also thanked the doctors at the DMCH for the treatment of the mother and her baby.
"Overall condition of the mother and her newborn daughter is improving," he said.
State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki also visited the mother -- Nazma Khatun -- and her daughter Suraiya at the hospital.
She said the prime minister has directed to bring the criminals under trial without considering their political affiliation.
The state minister handed over a cheque of Tk 50 thousand to Nazma Khatun.
Nazma and her unborn daughter were injured when she was shot in the abdomen during a clash between two Jubo League factions in Magura that left one killed and another injured.
The newborn, whose condition was very critical, was sent to the DMCH on July 26 without her mother.
Following doctors' suggestion, Nazma was later taken to the hospital to nurse her daughter last Thursday.
Meanwhile, two more, accused of the Magura shooting, have been arrested in Narayanganj. Six people have so far been arrested in connection with the shooting as of yesterday.
Detective Branch (DB) of Magura police with the assistance of local law enforcers arrested Sagor, 23, and Bappi, 20, at Signboard in Narayanganj yesterday afternoon, said Imanul Haque, officer-in-charge of DB Magura.
Earlier on Sunday, Rapid Action Battalion-4 arrested Magura district Chhatra League Vice-President Sen Suman from Kalyanpur in Dhaka and DB police held Nazrul Islam from Sreepur in Magura.
Police today produced Sen Suman, Bappi and Sagor, before a Magura court seeking 10 day remand only for Suman.
The court fixed August 9, for hearing.
