Diplomats feel safer after security beefed up

European Union Ambassador in Dhaka Pierre Mayaudon today said the additional security measures taken by the government have brought more safety in the diplomatic zone for them to move and live freely.

He expressed this opinion while talking to reporters after a meeting with Foreign Secretary Md Shahidul Haque at the foreign ministry this evening.

The envoy remarked that the security issue was not discussed at the meeting, but the discussion was centered only at the upcoming Bangladesh-EU joint commission scheduled for November.

Replying to a question, Ambassador Mayaudon said the EU trade commission plans to visit Bangladesh but "not very soon".

Later, German Ambassador in Dhaka Dr Thomas Prinzin met with the foreign secretary.

Emerging from the meeting, German Ambassador Thomas Prinz said he feels secure and he has not changed his lifestyle. The diplomat also said he is a bit more careful than he has been before.
