Ctg polls: Nasir pledges green megacity
Awami League-backed mayoral candidate in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) AJM Nasir Uddin today unveiled 36-point manifesto with promises to upgrade it as a green megacity.
"The city is expanding with different projects taken by the government and it has the potentials to be a megacity," the Nagorik Committee supported mayoral hopeful said while unveiling his manifesto at a press conference at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Chittagong.
Nasir said the dream could be materialised by planned and sustainable development with proper usage and management of the natural resources the city possesses, our Chittagong correspondent reports.
The manifesto sorted out 12 major problems with water logging topping the list.
His six-point plan to solve water logging included re-instating the canals and drains through dredging, widening and deepening them.
On waste management, Nasir pledged to set up an underground sewerage tank and central sewerage pipeline to avoid city wastages reaching the canals and to set up a bio-gas plant using the wastages.
For easing traffic jam, he promised multi-storey car parking areas and modernised transport system.
On digital Chittagong, Nasir highlighted bringing CCC under e-governance scheme, introducing Smart Card for paying taxes, electricity bills and creating Wi-Fi zone in the city.
He also promised to re-introduce city bus services for women and children with concessions for students in fairs.
Since his party is now in power, it would be easy for him to play a vital role in the development of the city as its mayor, Nasir claimed.
