Cop suspended over remarks about JS whip on Facebook
A police officer has been suspended on charge of making derogatory remarks about Jatiya Sangsad whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury on his Facebook page.
A letter signed by Assistant Inspector General of Police Anwar Hossain has been issued in this regard today.
Mahmud Saiful Amin, an inspector of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Dhaka’s Uttara area, the letter read.
According to the letter, the action was taken against inspector Mahmud for breaching discipline and damaging image of the police department.
During the suspension period, he will be attached to the office of Deputy Inspector General of police (Rangpur range), the letter added.
JS whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, also a lawmaker from Chattogram-12, today filed a case against the police officer under Digital Security Act with the cyber tribunal over the Facebook post.
Dhaka Cyber Tribunal Judge Ash Sams Joglul Hossain took the case into cognisance and instructed the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police to investigate the matter and submit a report by October 30.
