BIWTA suspends river vessels operation ahead of Bulbul
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended operations of all types of river vessels on all inner routes ahead of the cyclone ‘Bulbul’ that may hit Bangladesh tomorrow evening.
The state agency today issued a notice around 7:00pm in this regard and that will remain enforce until further notice, Mobarak Hossain Majumder, Public Relations Officer of the agency told The Daily Star.
Meanwhile, it has opened a control room at its headquarters in the capital and cancelled leave of all its staff to combat the cyclone storm, he said.
The top officials of the BIWTA will hold an important meeting at its headquarters around 10:00am tomorrow to assess the situation centering the cyclone, he added.
According to the special weather bulletin of Dhaka Met Office, the very severe cyclonic storm “Bulbul” over west-central Bay and adjoining east-central bay moved northwards, intensified further and now lies over northwest bay and the adjoining west-central bay.
