AL men ‘attack’ BNP activists in Ctg

Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists today allegedly carried out an attack on BNP activists in Chittagong during inauguration of BNP's two election offices in port city's Bayezid Bostami area.

Several BNP leaders and activists including BNP central Information Secretary Wahidul Alam was physically assaulted during the incident, BNP leaders alleged.

"A group of AL and BCL activists carrying sticks, sweeps and sandals arrived at Bangla Bazar of Sher Shah Area around 5:00pm chanting slogan against Manju and BNP," Wahidul said.

"Later, they attacked us and vandalised the chairs, leaving seven people including five women injured. The ruling party supporters also vandalised my vehicle," he alleged.

Terming the incident a mild tension, Babul Banik, officer-in-charge of Bayezid Police Station, said he heard of a procession by AL men carrying brooms and sandals.

Polls to Chittagong City Corporation and bifurcated Dhaka city corporations are scheduled to be held on April 28.
