‘70% chairman aspirants have higher education’
Almost 70 percent of the chairman aspirants in the district council elections received higher education, civil body Shujon said in a report published today.
While business is the occupation of 57 percent of the aspirants, a quarter of 146 chairman aspirants across Bangladesh had criminal records.
Shushasoner Jonno Nagorik, a civil society platform, announced the findings, obtained online, of the chairman candidates in a programme in Dhaka today.
"As the number of candidates contesting the elections are low, there is no scope to say it will be a competitive election," Shujon's central coordinator Dilip Kumar Sarkar said.
Among the total of 149 chairman candidates, Shujon said it could find tax history of only 50 of the candidates.
