5 of a family burnt in Dhaka fire

Five of a family including two minor boys were burnt in a fire that broke out at a house at South Keraniganj on the outskirts of Dhaka early today.

The injured -- rickshawpuller Ripon, 40, his wife Moli Begum, 35, their daughter Ripa, 15, and sons Monir Hossain, 9 and Abdul Gani, 5-- were rushed to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The victims received five to 15 percent burn injuries. They were admitted to the hospital around 6:00am, Mozzamel Haque, an inspector at Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp, told The Daily Star.

The fire originated from an electric short circuit around 3:30am, Fire Service and Civil Defence sources said.
