270kg sulphur seized, 1 held in Ctg
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today seized around 270kg of sulphur and detained a man in this connection in Patia upazila of Chittagong this afternoon.
Sulphur can be used to make explosives, according to the Rab officials.
The detainee, Omar Farroque, 35, is a resident of Patharghata village in of the upazila, Major Jahangir Alam, deputy director of Rab-7, told our Chittagong correspondent.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Rab-7 launched a raid at a betel nut processing factory at Billa Para village around 2:00pm and picked up Farroque, the Rab official said.
The Rab men later seized 270kg sulphur from the spot, Major Jahangir Alam added.
During primary interrogation, Farroque told Rab that two men -- Habibur Rahman, 30, and Bappi, 30, -- have stored the chemical to process betel-nuts.
Major Jahangir Alam said he could not show any proper documents to keep stock of such "explosive chemical".
"Usually sulphur is used in making explosives and we suspect the stock could've been used to make crude bombs," the Rab official said.
