2 Jubo League leaders held in Kushtia for ‘extortion’
Detective Branch of Police (DB) today claimed to have arrested two leaders of Jubo League, the youth wing of ruling Awami League, in Kushtia for their alleged involvement in extortion.
The arrestees are Mizanur Rahman Miju, Jubo League general secretary of Kushtia Sadar upazila, and Ashraful Islam Sujon, convener of Kushtia town units, our local correspondent reports quoting police.
Alamin Joarder, a contractor who has been running several construction projects in Kushtia Islamic University (IU), filed an extortion case with the IU Police Station on Friday evening, a DB official said.
A total of six local leaders of the ruling party’s different wings were shown accused in case, according to the DB.
A team of the DB police conducted a raid at Miju’s residence at Hasanbag village in the upazila around 11:30 pm and arrested him while another team arrested Sujon conducting a raid at his residence in Kalishangkarpur area of the town around 11:30pm today.
In the case, Shahin, who is now handling a construction work at the JU involving around Tk 10 crore, alleged that Miju and Sujon have frequently been putting pressure on him to pay them Tk 50 lakh.
SM Tanvir Arafat, superintendent of police in Kushtia, told our correspondent that the duo was arrested on a specific extortion case.
