5 killed in Narsingdi, N’ganj road crashes
At least five people including three university students were killed and seven others were injured in two separate accidents in Narsingdi and Narayanganj today.
Of them, four were killed and one other was injured in Narsingdi while one was killed and six others were injured in Narayanganj.
In Narsingdi, the accident took place at Kararchar area of Shibpur upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at 3:00am when a Dhaka-bound car hit a bus coming from the opposite direction, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent quoting police.
The deceased were identified as: Akib Hossain, 27; Jannatul Ferdous, 25; Sadia Akter, 24; and Sadia’s husband Ekram Mia, 35. All of them were passengers of the private car.
Of the deceased, Akib, Jannatul and Sadia were students of MBA programme at Millenium University in Dhaka.
“They were returning to Dhaka from Sylhet after attending a picnic,” said Sergeant Jakrul Kabir of Itakhola Highway Police Outpost.
A Shyamoli Paribahan bus from Dhaka slammed into the private car coming from the opposite direction in front of Kararchar Madina Jute Mills at Shibpur area, the police official said.
On information, four units of the fire service officials rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies and rescued the injured.
The car was mangled in the collision, leaving three people dead on the spot. The bus also plunged into a roadside ditch after the collision, he said.
Critically injured Akib Hossain and Sajal Mia were admitted to Narsingdi General Hospital, where Akib succumbed to his injuries, while Sajal was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated, the police official added.
In Narayanganj, a motorcyclist was killed and six others were injured as a private car hit the bike on Kanchan-Kuril road in front of the Nela market area of Rupganj upazila this afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Ibrahim Sarkar, 42, son of Sudhan Mia, a resident of Kawla Madhyapara area of Dhaka. He was a cloth tradew, said Shahjahan Khan, a sub-inspector (SI) of Rupganj Police Station.
The motorcyclist Ibrahim Sarkar and his pillion Arif were going to Kawla around 4:00pm when the private car hit the motorcycle, the police official said.
Ibrahim died on the spot and Arif, 35, was critically injured, the SI said.
Meanwhile, the private car also fell into the roadside ditch. At least five passengers of the car were injured, including the driver, he added.
