Myanmar ‘yaba trader’ killed in ‘gunfight’ in Teknaf
An alleged Myanmarese Yaba trader was killed in “gunfight” with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Naf River near Teknaf upazila early today.
The deceased was identified as Darbesh Mia, a Myanmar citizen, our Cox’s Bazar correspondent reports quoting Ataur Rahman Khandakar, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station.
Acting on-a tip-off, BGB men chased a group of Yaba traders when they were heading towards Bangladesh from Myanmar on the river around 3:30am, the OC said.
At one point, the yaba traders opened fired on the BGB men compelling them to fire back, leaving Darbesh Mia injured critically, he said. He died on the way of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital.
One yaba trader was detained and around 30,000 pieces of yaba tablets worth Tk 1.15 crore was recovered in the drive, he added.
